How to build a kinder workplace when its leaders don’t

Company culture stems from actions and not from words. To have a great working environment, encourage, train and reward behaviours that lead to collaboration and productivity. Being put in a leadership position does not inherently bestow a set of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Developing skills such as listening and providing constructive feedback will enable having and growing a great culture.

Your value can be far greater than just getting tasks done. Build your people skills from listening and observing, providing feedback, and coaching others.

Everyone should aspire to have these habits and not just people in leadership. Developing these habits throughout your career will improve yourself, improve people on your team, and better prepare you for leadership positions.
